Most times the opinions and perspectives of family and friends favor what they think you want to hear. At the very least what they tell you is based on the problem with you in it. Since they have your back it’s tough to maintain impartiality.
Often people are partial to what they want you to think. For example, your relationship problems might be overblown by a friend who’s never liked your partner.
Sometimes, others’ input is clouded by what they want you to want. Like the in-laws whose stake may be in protecting your partner, not you.
For whatever the reason, there are times when you want to sit with an unbiased yet empathetic listener.
